Joyce not fighting for XT customers

Joyce not fighting for XT customers

Telecom boss Paul Reynolds has exposed Steven Joyce’s lack understanding of the anger or frustration XT customers are experiencing, Labour’s Communications spokesperson Clare Curran said today.

“Mr Reynolds told a press conference today that he phoned the Communications Minister yesterday to update him on the latest XT outage. Paul Reynolds said Steven Joyce passed on his sympathy and support for Telecom,” Clare Curran said.

“What about sympathy for the XT customers Steven Joyce? After a fourth major outage in Telecom’s major network we have a minister who still won’t pick up the phone and on behalf of New Zealanders ask ‘what is going on?’”

Clare Curran said while XT customers would welcome Telecom’s offer of compensation, what they really want is a mobile phone that works.

“Telecom should be applauded for offering a $10 million dollar compensation package to its customers. But it is imperative now that it ensures the XT network is reliable,” Clare Curran said.

“Maybe instead of sympathising with Telecom Steven Joyce should sympathise with the 450,000 Kiwis who are XT customers.

“Telecom is at fault here, not its customers, the Minister would be wise to remember who the aggrieved party is.
