Joyce needs assurances from Telecom
Communications Minister Steven Joyce must put
Telecom on notice to come clean with its customers around
the stability of its XT network, Labour’s Communications
and IT spokesperson Clare Curran said today.
“I have received reports from several highly placed sources that the Telecom XT network was never properly tested before it went to market,” Clare Curran said.
“This is concerning and Steven Joyce needs to seek assurances that the 111 Emergency service can be relied upon for the 450,000 people on the XT network.
“There has already been considerable personal and financial impact on XT customers and a reliable service for them must be paramount.
Clare Curran said there are some important questions the Minister needs to answer:
“Has the Minister sought assurances from Telecom that the XT network was properly tested before it went live?
“Has he asked Telecom whether it was aware serious faults existed in the XT network before it went live?
“Does he know how many Government service providers are dependent on the XT network?
“Are there adequate checks to ensure new infrastructure is thoroughly tested before coming on line?
