Fitting recognition for Dr Ian Hassall
Former
Children’s Commissioner Ian Hassall’s prestigious award
from the UN is fitting recognition for his outstanding work
over many years on behalf of Kiwi children, Labour Deputy
Leader Annette King said today.
Dr Hassall has been awarded the UN Children’s Fund Aldo Farina Award at a ceremony in Seoul. The award recognises contribution to child rights advocacy and is open to all 194 countries in which UNICEF operates.
“On behalf of the Labour Party I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ian. This prestigious award recognises the extraordinary job Ian has performed on behalf of our children over many years,” Annette King said.
"Among his many achievements, he contributed to the development of the 1989 Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act, which is typical of his work in putting children’s wellbeing at the centre of public policy.
“Ian’s dedication and passion for children is an inspiration to us all. This award makes me proud to be a Kiwi,” Annette King said.
