Farewell Merata Mita
New Zealand has lost a talented
actress, producer and filmmaker with the passing of Merata
Mita, Labour arts, culture and heritage spokesperson Steve
Chadwick said.
“Merata Mita helped to bring New Zealand stories to life in a way that both Maori and Pakeha could relate to,” Steve Chadwick said.
“It is thanks to Merata Mita that stories about such topics as Bastion Point and the Springbok tour were brought into people’s homes and consciousness.
“As a Maori woman working in filmmaking she broke down barriers while working to tell New Zealand stories that needed to be told.
“Her talent, courage and her passion for filmmaking will be greatly missed,” Steve Chadwick said.
