Qualifications important for teaching in ECE
Qualifications important for teaching in early childhood
education
Prime Minister John Key needs to
front up with the research or evidence that cutting funding
for qualified early childhood teachers won't affect quality,
rather than subjecting the nation's pre-school children to
his personal belief, says Labour Spokesperson for ECE, Sue
Moroney.
"Before the election he promised a brighter future, so why is he dumbing down early childhood education?
“John Key is trying to play down the impact on 93,000 children and their families, but he can't back his decision up with anything but his personal belief,” said Sue Moroney.
“His budget cuts are forcing parents to choose between affordability and quality for their children's education.
"He used to be ambitious for New Zealand - now, second rate education will do.
“Labour had improved both the affordability and the quality of early childhood education because research and evidence showed this would improve life outcomes for children and reduce health, crime and welfare costs in society.
"John Key needs to explain why the wealthy deserve huge tax cuts, but kids only deserve a second-rate pre-school education," said Sue Moroney.
