We want solutions not insults from the RWC Minister
Labour's Auckland Issues spokesperson Phil Twyford says the Minister for the Rugby World Cup Murray McCully should show a little less ego, and a little more can-do in relation to the party central problem.
"The Minister's idea of constructive engagement is to pour contempt on Auckland, and heap abuse on the Auckland Regional Council. It would have been better if the Government had provided more clarity of leadership from the beginning, rather than berating Aucklanders like some tinpot general.
"It is a strange way for a Cabinet Minister to behave, and frankly not very helpful.
“What we don’t need right now is Ministers ducking and diving from their responsibilities. What we do need is someone to take charge before the foreign guests arrive and New Zealand makes a fool of itself on the international stage.
“Murray Mc Cully is the Minister in charge of the Rugby World Cup, not Mike Lee. The Minister needs to step up to the plate and do his job, make decisions and show some leadership on the issue.
“With so much public money at stake as well as New Zealand’s international reputation Mr McCully needs to cut out the one liners and start taking this issue seriously,” said Phil Twyford.
