‘Greenslide’ In Australia Sign Of The Times

‘Greenslide’ In Australia Sign Of The Times

Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei today congratulated the Australian Green Party on their record showing in yesterday's Australian election.

The Australian Green Party secured their highest ever result, delivering the Party a rare seat in the 150-seat House of Representatives and six new seats in the Senate giving them a total of nine in the 76-seat upper house.

“The Australian Greens have beaten all expectations across the Tasman,” said an elated Mrs Turei.

“The Greens won their highest vote ever securing 11% of the national vote making them the undisputed third major political party in Australia.”

“As Australian Greens leader Senator Bob Brown called it, the result is a ‘Greenslide’.”

Adam Bandt is only the second Green candidate to ever win a seat in the House of Representatives. He secured his electorate seat in inner city Melbourne. He addressed a victorious crowd of supporters saying that “green values are now mainstream values”.

“More and more people support the Green connection between caring for our people, caring for our environment, and having a prosperous economy,” said Mrs Turei.

“Whether the issue is climate change, mining, or the massive gap between the rich and poor — only the Greens are connecting the dots with practical solutions to the problems we face.

“Australian voters have gone and put Green solutions at the heart of politics.”
