Dunne: Henry insult shows NZ still not truly multicultural
The Paul Henry controversy over his insult to Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand shows New Zealand has still some way to go before it is a genuinely multicultural society, UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne says.
“Mr Henry’s public comments were gratuitous and insulting and Television New Zealand’s response has been pathetic.
“As a so-called ‘responsible broadcaster’ it should remove him from his Breakfast role, permanently.
“In the wider context, the issue shows New Zealand is still some way off becoming a truly multicultural society.
“It reinforces the need to have something like Canada’s Multiculturalism Act to both reinforce multiculturalism in our own country, and to require government agencies such as TVNZ to adopt multiculturalism policies at all levels of operation,” Mr Dunne says.
