Flavell Welcomes Civic Leaders Throughout Waiariki

Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell is congratulating all of the mayors and civic leaders who have been elected on to the seven city and district councils in the Waiariki electorate.

“I welcome both the new and not so new faces who will be charged with governing the various areas within Waiariki.

“I’ve dealt with a number of the elected representatives on numerous issues in the past and I look forward to continuing that with them and engaging with the new representatives on issues that will take our constituents forward.

“A number of the elected members have already experienced the splendor of cultures belonging to the iwi of Te Arawa and Mataatua waka and are aware of the issues facing them.

“I encourage those elected members, who haven’t taken the opportunity to familiarise themselves with those iwi, to do so – to get out there and really get to know all the people they represent.

“There are some really significant issues facing the people of this region – unemployment, especially in eastern and western Bay of Plenty, is just one of them – and I look forward to working with anyone who is passionate about making a positive difference.”

The Waiariki electorate extends from just south of Waihi Beach in the west, to Cape Runaway in the east, including Rotorua, Taupo and south to Turangi and the Kaimanawa Mountains. The boundary then tracks north along the Raukumara Range to the coast.
