Congratulations to Mayor-elect Wade-Brown

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Wade-Brown

Labour MPs Annette King, Grant Robertson and Charles Chauvel have welcomed the election of Celia Wade-Brown as Mayor of Wellington City Council.

Final results of the 2010 election announced today have given the new mayor a 176 vote majority.

"Wellingtonians have made a choice for change. Celia has over 12 years of experience on the Council and will bring fresh energy to the role. As Labour MPs in Wellington we look forward to working with Celia on developing Wellington as a progressive and sustainable city" said Rongotai MP Annette King.

The election means that Kerry Prendergast, who was the previous mayor, failed to win a fourth successive term.

"I heartily congratulate Celia, but I also want to acknowledge that despite our political and policy differences Kerry has working extremely hard for Wellington and , she should be proud of her accomplishments" said Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson.

The new council also features two Labour councillors, with Leonie Gill being joined by newcomer Paul Eagle in the Southern Ward.

"I am hopeful that Celia will quickly build upon her strong relationships with her fellow Council colleagues, including our Labour councillors. We wish them all the best of success, and they have our commitment to work constructively with them,” said Labour List MP based in the Ohariu electorate Charles Chauvel.
