Film will be great tourism advertisement
Regardless of Prime Minister John Key’s political games, The Hobbit will be a great advertisement for New Zealand and the tourism industry, says Labour’s Tourism spokesperson Kelvin Davis.
“The Hobbit will add immense value to the tourism industry, coming off the back of figures released this week showing that tourism has overtaken the dairy industry as New Zealand's biggest export earner,” Kelvin Davis said.
“It is unfortunate, however, that the Prime Minister had to manufacture a crisis to make himself look like The Hobbit saviour, as Warner Brothers had acknowledged in a letter of 18 October that all industrial action around the movie had been resolved.
“Unfortunately National has used the manufactured crisis to pass an unnecessary law that exploits employees in the film industry,” Kelvin Davis said.
“I hope the rights of workers in the tourism industry won't be John Key’s next target.”
