MP attends funeral of Private Kirifi Mila

Maungakiekie MP, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga was honoured to attend the funeral today of Private Kirifi Mila who was tragically killed in the service of his country last week.

“Private Mila was a much loved son, brother, and friend. I extend my sincere condolences not only to Private Mila’s family but to those who were injured and their families as well.

“Private Mila was an upstanding member of the Defence Force and a pillar of strength and inspiration to the Samoan community”, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga says.

The New Zealand Defence Force is operating in a dangerous and difficult environment in order to help the Afghan people.

“At this time we should reflect on the service of all our Defence Force Personnel and their families. We thank them, and pray that they stay safe from harm’s way.

“I hope that Private Mila’s family and friends are left with the cherished memories and the solemn pride in knowing that their loved one paid the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom”, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga says.

Defence Minister Wayne Mapp has given assurances that Private Mila’s family, the injured, and their families will have the support they need in the coming weeks.

“In his life Private Mila demonstrated the core Samoan values of Respect Love and ultimately Service.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Private Mila’s family, friends and the wider Samoan and Defence communities”, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga says.
