Done with deal making

Labour List MP

Done with deal making

A deal between Peter Dunne and National didn’t work in 2008 and it won’t work this time around, Ohariu-based Labour List MP Charles Chauvel says.

“The National Party tried a similar tactic in Ohariu at the last election. One of the safest seats in New Zealand became one of the eight most marginal, with just 1006 votes in it. Peter Dunne scraped through by the skin of his teeth.

"Since then, he has become a National Party yes-man, voting in lock-step with National for cuts to early childhood education, raising GST and supporting initial calls to sell off our publicly-owned assets,” Charles Chauvel said.

"This, plus the fact that Peter Dunne has been an MP for 27 years and belonged to four different political parties over that time, has seen voters grow both wary and weary.

“Faceless party bosses aren’t the people who should decide who the MP for Ohariu is going to be. The voters of Ohariu are.

“What we’re seeing here is the act of a man who so desperately wants to remain in Government, that he is deliberately ignoring electorate opinion.

"I look forward to voters exercising their free choice in Ohariu on election day,” Charles Chauvel said.
