Green Party comment on Ports of Auckland lock-out notice
Ports of Auckland’s moves to lock-out union workers after an Employment Court agreement to continue bargaining means that the Mayor of Auckland Len Brown must step into the long-running Ports dispute, Green Party industrial relations spokesperson Denise Roche said today.
Port workers have this morning been served an official lock out notice from the Ports of Auckland, to take effect in two weeks.
“The Ports of Auckland’s decision to lock-out the union workers is in direct defiance of the settlement reached between the Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union in the Employment Court,” said Ms Roche.
“This lock-out notice is yet another example of the bad faith bargaining by the Ports of Auckland management.
“The management of the Ports of Auckland seem determined to break the Maritime Union at all costs even if it means destroying Auckland’s import and export gateway,” said Ms Roche.
