Volunteer week honours backbone of society
National Volunteer Week is an important time to acknowledge the incredible work volunteers do and the millions of hours they put in for no money,” says Labour's Community and Voluntary Sector spokesperson Louisa Wall.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our society. Today I join with Vanisa Dhiru, Chief Executive of Volunteering New Zealand, to highlight National Volunteer Week. Thank you to all volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations for their millions of hours of community service.
“National Volunteer Week highlights and celebrates volunteers’ contribution to creating caring and unified communities who support and look after one another. Volunteers are the heart of our communities.
"The theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘He Tangata! He Tangata! He Tangata! It is people, it is people, it is people’. The Maori proverb says people are the most important thing in the world.
"Kia ora to the one-third of New Zealanders who volunteer - our communities need you and we are all so much better through your and our collective efforts. Let's all get volunteering and thank as many volunteers as we can find for their efforts to make life more enjoyable for us all."
