Bishop encourages Hutt teachers to apply for awards

National List MP based in the Hutt Valley Chris Bishop is encouraging teachers in the Hutt to apply for a Prime Minister’s Education Excellence award.

“Great teachers change lives, and it’s vital that we publicly recognise and reward the great teachers working hard every day to give Hutt Valley children the best start in life”, Mr Bishop says.

“The Prime Minister’s awards celebrate the people in our communities delivering the best teaching to children - those who raise the bar that bit higher.”

The four main categories in the Prime Minister’s Education Excellence Awards are excellence in governing, excellence in leading, excellence in teaching and learning, and excellence in engaging. The category winners will receive $20,000, and the supreme winner will receive an additional $30,000.

This year the education focus prize celebrates a focus on collaboration creating learner-led pathways from early childhood to schooling.

“We have so many talented education professionals in the Hutt, many of whom I’ve met in my visits around the community. It would be great to see Hutt teachers recognised in these prestigious awards.”

Entry forms are available at www.pmawards.education.govt.nz. Entries close on 20 March 2015.
