Green Party media comment: Wharf decision unwise

“It seems like a very unwise move to continue building part of the extension to the Bledisloe Wharf without the outcome of the study to determine whether the wharf is necessary,” said Green Party environment spokesperson Julie Anne Genter.

“Any wharf extension, no matter how short term, will cause damage to the Hauraki Gulf, and in the end it might just have to be pulled out.

“Ports of Auckland are likely betting that they won't have to remove the extension, even if the study shows it's not needed or appropriate.

"The damage and loss of our beautiful harbour will be irreversible.

“The prudent thing to do would be to wait for the results of the study, rather than rushing forward with a half-baked idea,” said Ms Genter.
