Act Party ‘Leader’ Caught Out Playing Hooky

The Act Party “Leader” David Seymour went AWOL from Parliament last night but allowed his vote to be counted, says New Zealand First Deputy Leader Ron Mark.

“The $175,600 Under-Secretary of State to the Minister of Education was so preoccupied with extracurricular activities he did not return for a vote.

“When New Zealand First left the Backbencher pub in Wellington, following the filming of the weekly Back Benches television show, we noticed Mr Seymour was still there.

“We don’t know what happened but National used Mr Seymour’s proxy vote last night, then they had to embarrassingly correct the vote when they discovered Mr Seymour had been AWOL.

“This is not the first time National has expressed absolute confidence that they had all the votes in order. In fact, they have used that answer on two occasions involving New Zealand First Bills where the vote was 60:61.

“On both occasions the word of National was taken over the word of New Zealand First.

“Given Mr Seymour was caught out, how many occasions has National been short? We don’t know because the Party Whips don’t have eyes in the back of their heads when MPs are playing hooky,” says Mr Mark.
