Key’s Propaganda Can’t Hide National’s Broken Promises

John Key knows all about political parties making promises they have no intention of keeping, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.

“He claims Labour is using the Mt Roskill by-election to announce its $1.4 billion promise for an Auckland light rail network, and that’s no doubt true.

“But, look who’s talking: During the Northland by-election National promised $69 million to upgrade 10 bridges, but nothing has happened. The people of Northland are still waiting.

“One-lane bridges are still in place at Taipa, Kaeo, Waihou River (Rangiahua), Tirohanga Taheke, Waimamaku River (Hallahans), Waimamaku River (Lowes), Matakohe River (Hardies) and Andersons. Then there’s the so-called Darby and Joan bridge which is a ramp between kauri trees that will never be two lanes.

“National also promised a new Puhoi-Wellsford highway and cellphone towers in all non-coverage areas. There was also a promise of super super fast broadband everywhere, of which very little has been done.

“It’s the same broken promise story.

“National promised money to upgrade the Auckland-Whangarei railway. Result: Nothing done and KiwiRail has halved its service on the line and shut down movements on the Otiria-Kauri line.

“The public of New Zealand are waking up to realise Mr Key and National have a long history of broken promises and try to cover them up with propaganda,” Mr Peters says.
