New Book Tackles Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Ron Mark MP

Spokesperson for Defence
1 NOVEMBER 2016

NEW BOOK TACKLES POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

New Zealand First Defence Spokesperson Ron Mark will host the launch of a book dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) tomorrow.

“This is the first ‘good news’ book about PTSD and has been written by a Kiwi veteran and police officer, Dion Jensen.

“The book provides an innovative approach to PTSD and will be invaluable in the battle against suicide,” Mr Mark says.

“Dion is a former Kiwi soldier, police officer and Iraqi contractor.

“People who work and live on the edge day to day with the threat of other people trying to kill them become hypersensitive, hyper aroused and hypervigilant. Their reaction to threats and perceived threats can isolate them from loved ones, friends and colleagues.

“Fatigue, emotional shifts, depression, anxiety, paranoia and isolation, coupled with alcohol and drug use and unemployment can lead to them taking a negative view of themselves.

“Dion’s book helps Vets better understand the symptoms and that they are damaged, not broken, and given what they have been through, it is normal.

“The book gives them a mechanism that will help them to realise they will not get better by themselves and they need to seek help.”

Where: Beehive Theatrette

When: Wednesday, November 2, 6pm-7.30pm.
