Oxfam's rapid response team arrives on Nias
An Oxfam international rapid response assessment team
have just landed on
the Indonesian island of
Nias.
Alessandra Boas, a member of the Oxfam assessment
team said:
"The devastation is obvious as soon as you
land. Many of the houses here
have collapsed, but it's
still too early for us to get a sense of the full
scale
of this."
The Oxfam team have just landed by helicopter
having left from Banda Aceh
this morning. The team are
now on their way by motorbikes from the landing
site to
the area where the devastation is greatest.
"We're now on
our way to the people made homeless by the quake and
assess
what their most urgent needs are and how we can
help," added Ms Bosa.
The Oxfam assessment team includes
an engineer and an emergency response
specialist.
