AA Welcomes Investment in Better, Safer Roads
The AA has welcomed the National Party's commitment to invest the petrol tax in rebuilding New Zealand's transport capability.
The Allen Report, commissioned by the AA and released last year, proved conclusively that better roads are the key to unlock jobs and prosperity around the country.
Dr Brash's speech today supports the AA's long-held views about the diversion of the petrol tax from vital investment in roads to the Crown account.
The Allen report also showed it is fiscally and economically responsible to invest all petrol tax in roads.
A wide range of political parties now acknowledge that decades of under-investment have left our roads rundown and unsafe. The AA has always been happy to work with all Parties to develop better policies and we now look to the Government to match this commitment to invest all petrol tax in better, safer roads.
