Commission welcomes primary health care funding

The Mental Health Commission welcomes the Government’s announcement of a funding boost of $21 million over the next four years for primary mental health care.

The funding for patients with mild to moderate depression, anxiety disorders and drug and alcohol addictions recognises that early intervention in a setting that does not stigmatise people is important in helping people to maintain their wellbeing, says Chair Ruth Harrison.

“The Mental Health Commission is keen to see more developments that support people’s mental health in primary health care settings.

“Every effort should be made to respond early and directly to mental health and or addiction problems to prevent disruption and distress in people’s lives,” she said.
