Spotless Are Taking on More Than Their Workers - CTU
"Service and support staff in hospitals are some of the lowest paid workers in the country and by locking out hundreds of hospital workers Spotless Services are taking on the whole 350,000 strong union movement,” CTU president Ross Wilson said today.
“New Zealand workers and communities stood up and fought back when Progressive Enterprises locked out 500 supermarket supply chain workers last year, and support for these workers quickly became international.”
“Spotless should take note of the growing community support for the hospital service workers they have locked out, including the Mayors of two cities and other workers and members of the public attending pickets in several parts of New Zealand.”
“Government has fronted up with $16 million to improve the pitiful wages of these workers, and if DHBs and the three other contractors can reach agreement on passing on this increase, Spotless should stop playing around with the lives of these low paid workers and do the same,” Ross Wilson said.
