Report On Madeleine Setchell Case Chance To Learn Lessons from Mistakes Made.
The PSA is pleased that the State Services Commission has asked the Ministry of Environment chief executive, Hugh Logan to prepare a report on his handling of the Madeleine Setchell case.
“The PSA believes the mishandling of the Madeleine Setchell case has cast a cloud over the political neutrality of New Zealand’s public service,” says Brenda Pilott, National Secretary of the PSA, which has 55,000 members working in the state sector.
“We need to lift that cloud and repair the damage that’s been done to the relationship between the public service and Ministers,” says Brenda Pilott.
“We’re pleased Mr Logan is preparing a report for the Commission, because, as the Acting State Services Commissioner, Ian Rennie stated today, it will provide a chance to learn some lessons from the mistakes that have been made.”
“Like Mr Rennie the PSA wants to ensure that these mistakes are not repeated,” says Brenda Pilott.
The PSA is pleased that the lessons in the report will be made public.
“We hope that this will help end the confusion that now exists for public servants and for people applying for jobs in the public service around the issue of the political activity of their partners and family members,” says Brenda Pilott.
