Dear Scoop,
I wish to strongly disagree with the Scoop story from Mr Hackwell of Forest & Bird recently printed on your website stating that Hunters were responsible for the 1080 thrown around parks recently.
Who pulled his chain and made him the expert? Where does he get the idea its hunters when I have obtained thousands of signatures against 1080 from farmers, foresters, lawyers, greenies and people from all professions over the years, of whom hunters would be less that ten per cent. Even a high profile Forest & Bird member spoke against 1080 at the anti 1080 march in Greymouth!
Having 1080 scattered in your own city backyard obviously upsets Forest & Bird city dwellers yet they have been actively supporting 1080 being scattered in the country people’s backyards for 40 plus years, even going into their water supplies! 1080 was even recently dropped “accidentally” in Hari Hari’s water catchment with the local Medical Officer of Health stating he could do nothing about it even though 1080 was detected in the water below the intake!
Seddon in Marlborough cannot use their water
without boiling it because of
Decomposing carcases from
1080 drops in their Black Birch water supply
catchment.
And yes Mr Hackwell I am a hunter whom is absolutely disgusted with the slaughter 1080 causes to our native and introduced wildlife but would never condone what an obviously upset anti 1080 person did by scattering 1080 in the parks.
I also consider myself an active
conservationist not an eco-fundamentalist!
Provide the
evidence it was hunters!
Lloyd Hanson.
I ask this letter be considered a reply from the hunting fraternity and printed on your site, thanks a lot, Lloyd Hanson.
