Dolphin threat management plan draws to a close

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Consultation on dolphin threat management plan draws to a close

Consultation on the draft Hector’s and Maui’s Threat Management Plan closes on 24 October 2007. The plan looks at ways to mitigate human-induced threats on the dolphins.

DOC and MFish staff have been holding meetings around the country to answer questions about the plan and to encourage people write submissions to explain how each option in the plan stands to affect them.

The Ministers of Conservation and Fish want to know people’s views on the options and how they might be affected.

The draft plan, public submissions, analysis and a report about cultural, social and economic impacts of the options will be forwarded to the Ministers for consideration.

The Ministers’ decision is expected in time for any new management measures to be in place before Christmas.
