Bill English wrong on electoral law allegations
The Council of Trade Unions says that Bill English should get his facts right before he makes misleading and incorrect statements about the CTU’s compliance with electoral law.
Mr English alleged in Parliament yesterday that the CTU had breached the new Electoral Finance Act by not listing the home address of its financial agent in its application to register as a third party.
CTU president Helen Kelly said Mr English was wrong and did not understand the procedures the Electoral Commission was using for dealing with third party applications.
“Bill English is confusing a page on the Electoral Commission website that lists some basic details about third parties that have applied to register, with our full written application which sets out all the requirements, including the home address of our financial agent.”
“I’m disappointed that he didn’t take the time to ring and get a quick answer on this. He should get his facts right before he makes such ridiculous and misleading statements to Parliament,” Helen Kelly said.
