ANZ waives fees to send money to disaster-affected
countries in the Pacific
ANZ Appeal fund doubles in two
days
ANZ New Zealand is waiving the remittance fee to send money to disaster-affected countries Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga until 31 October 2009.
This means ANZ
customers will not pay the normal $25 remittance fee to send
money via telegraphic transfer to these countries.
Telegraphic transfers are available through ANZ branches,
internet banking and phone banking.
The fee waiver follows ANZ Banking Group’s establishment of an appeal (ANZ (NZ) Samoa Appeal Fund: Account number 01 1839 0143546 00) to assist the families impacted by the recent earthquake and tsunami disaster in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga.
The bank-wide Appeal is being coordinated across the wider ANZ Pacific region, incorporating its divisions in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
The ANZ (NZ) Samoa Appeal Fund has so far raised NZD$56,627.63 in New Zealand. ANZ Group has also made a donation of AUD$100,000 to kickstart the appeal.
All proceeds of the appeal will go to the Samoa Red Cross to assist with the disaster response in the affected areas.
Says Wayne Besant, ANZ Retail Managing Director: “With such a large number of Samoan people living in New Zealand, and in particular Auckland, we know that many families will be concerned about their loved ones in Tonga, Samoa and Western Samoa."
"It will now be easier for these families to send money home to their loved ones. We also encourage other New Zealanders to show their support by making a donation at any ANZ branch."
“Our thoughts and sympathies go to those people both here in New Zealand and in the Islands who have lost loved ones or have been made homeless as a result of this tragedy," says Mr Besant.
