Budget fails New Zealand and the climate
“Today’s
budget confirms that this Government has no economic vision,
and is wilfully ignoring the huge opportunities there are in
embracing clean economic growth. How can a Budget in
today’s global climate not deliver or offer any means to
transition to a cleaner, smarter way of doing
business?”
“There’s no economic justification for spending an eye-watering $12 billion on building more roads. The Government is hell bent on cementing our reliance on foreign oil, leaving our economy exposed to volatile price spikes – a strategic error that will cost New Zealanders dearly for generations to come.”
“Countries like South Korea, China, and Germany are investing trillions on clean energy, to stimulate and future-proof their economies. A Green Bank’s to be set up in the UK to help catalyse economic growth, job creation and the export of clean energy technologies. Our Government, on the other hand, is determined to invest only in the fossil fuels of yesterday. It’s a crying shame.”
