Majority vote in Favour

NZ Bus has been advised by the unions that at a meeting today over 50% of their members voted to accept the company’s offer. The vote failed to achieve the 60% threshold required to ratify. The Company has already reached agreement with the union leadership twice on acceptable deals, but they have been unable to convince 60% of their members to accept.

“We have reached agreement with the unions on a fair deal. The Council of Trade Unions has supported the position. The deal will see their members paid $20 hour next November making them amongst the highest paid in Auckland. The union executive have unanimously recommended the deal and over 50% of the drivers want to accept. At some point we need to move forward as a business” Said Mr. Shane McMahon COO NZ Bus.

The unions have been talking publicly about roster changes being part of the reason that the offer has not been ratified. It’s important to note rosters are not part of the negotiation and all NZ Bus rosters fully comply with the NZTA Work Time rules for drivers of commercial or heavy motor vehicles.

The company will continue to work to bring a conclusion to bargaining.
