Social housing provider opens development in Johnsonvillle

Social housing provider, Accessible Properties, opens latest development in Johnsonville

Social housing provider, Accessible Properties, will be opening eight new social housing units in a new housing development in Johnsonville tomorrow.

Accessible Properties manages the largest non-government housing portfolio in New Zealand.

Social Housing Minister Paula Bennett will attend the official opening of the new homes.


The development of these homes has been made possible through the Government’s Social Housing Fund, which has allowed Accessible Properties to continue to develop 167 homes throughout the country.

Accessible Properties has now completed 99 units nationwide, with additional units in various stages of construction. Once the additional units are completed Accessible Properties total social housing stock will be around 194 units.

Accessible Properties is a Registered Community Housing Provider, which gives them access to the Income Related Rents Subsidies (IRRS) for tenants. The people who live here will come from a variety of backgrounds and have a range of social support needs (many with a physical or intellectual disability), with some of the units being available to people who receive IRRS. Many of the placements will have wrap-around social support services.

Accessible Properties New Zealand Limited is a charitable organisation and is owned by IHC New Zealand. It manages all properties used by IHC and its subsidiaries (around 1,100 properties) as well as homes used by other social service agencies. Accessible Properties manages the largest non-government housing portfolio in New Zealand. More than 4,000 people with intellectual disabilities use IHC properties from Kaitaia to Invercargill.

About the Middleton Road properties
Developed by Greg and Craig Walton and constructed by Holmes Wellington Ltd, most of the units at Middleton Road include features for people with disabilities including level access, wet area bathrooms, and adaptable kitchens. The units are ideal for people with limited mobility. They are located within easy walking distance of shops, community facilities and public transport at Johnsonville.
