Heritage Policy Submission And City Centre Upgrades Discussed at Development Committee

The Auckland Development Committee met today and discussed the council’s response to Heritage New Zealand’s policy consultation and the latest City Centre Integration progress update. The following is a digest of decisions made.

Items 1-8 were administrative items.

Item 9 – Auckland Council Submission of Feedback on Five Policies of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga

This item was to consider the council’s submission on the five draft policies and a set of guidelines circulated for consultation by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga.

Councillors discussed the submission and approved the recommendation to endorse the submission with an additional summary from the Independent Maori Statutory Board.

Item 10 – City Centre Integration update

Councillors were presented with an update on initiatives within Auckland city centre, including progress on developing the Aotea framework, which will require a workshop later in the year.

It also provided councillors with an update on the O’Connell Street Shared Space, the Hobson and Nelson Street upgrade and other projects such as the cycle network. View the agenda for more detail.
