Human Rights Commission congratulates Multicultural New Zealand
The Human Rights Commission has congratulated Multicultural New Zealand on the launch of their milestone report “Our Multicultural Future”.
“We are proud to support Multicultural New Zealand’s report and national action plan for dialogue with government community organisations,” said Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy.
“This is a huge piece of work that is about planning our shared future together, it is a about leadership and dialogue.”
The report was launched at a ceremony held in Wellington this afternoon.
We are immensely proud to see Multicultural New Zealand place the Treaty of Waitangi as the foundation upon which our shared futures will be built upon.
“It is imperative for our future that we stand alongside one another and look back to the past with our eyes wide open. It is about dialogue and conversations,” said Dame Susan.
“If we can’t korero together – however are we going to live together?”
Dame Susan says we live in one of the most ethnically diverse nations on earth – and yet we also live in one of the most peaceful nations on earth.
“Whether we leave this legacy behind for our children – that part is up to us, all of us. Our Multicultural Future is a key part of that legacy. Because this kind of work is an insurance policy for our children’s future.”
