Missing: Accountability at Kaikoura District Council

Missing: Accountability at Kaikoura District Council

25 FEBRUARY 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the Marlborough Express report that Kaikoura District Council is to retain a practice of not noting how Councillors have voted on particular issues, Ben Craven, a spokesman for the Taxpayers’ Union, says:

“The only reason democratically elected representatives wouldn’t want their votes recorded is if they want to hide from their record. Councillors should have the courage of conviction to stand by the decisions they make.”

“What use are campaign promises in Kaikoura, if ratepayers are unable to see how their representatives have voted on issues affecting them?”

“Instead of being accountable, Kaikoura District Councillors seem to be telling voters to get stuffed.”
