Another Blooper in Referendum Papers – NZ First
Another error has been found on the information pamphlet accompanying voting papers in the flag referendum and New Zealand First is questioning the competence of the Electoral Commission.
“This latest case involves the Russian words on the pamphlet which translated twists the meaning to again promote a flag change,” New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peter says.
“The Russian translates as ‘Put a tick next to the flag that in your opinion should become the New Zealand flag.’
“It’s subtle but suggests a flag change; it should read ‘should be the New Zealand flag.’
“In the past week the Electoral Commission had the temerity to defend the inaccuracy of the Hindi words which we pointed out in the pamphlet. They were defending the indefensible.
“The level of incompetence is worrying. Remember they also lost a court case because they misinterpreted the law,” Mr Peters says.
