Serious disruption to Weapons Expo
31 October 2018
“Non-violent direct action was used to delay and disrupt Weapons Expo delegates from getting to their conference venue today,” said Auckland Peace Action member Valerie Morse.
“We are happy that we have caused this war profiteers meeting from being held as planned. We are not happy, however, about the arrest of 10 peace activists who were simply using their rights to stand up against war.”
“We successfully blockaded streets and buses over the course of the morning, and we accomplished our goals despite the enormous expenditure of resources by Police, the NZ Defence Industry Association and the Palmerston North City Council.”
“Actions this morning were following by a fantastic community march from the Square to the event venue. We are thrilled that the Palmerston North community has really gotten behind this campaign to end the Weapons Expo, and our sister organisation, Peace Action Manawatū has done a wonderful job bringing people together.”
“We’ll be back on the streets tomorrow for more action and we expect plenty of people will be there with us.”
