TPPA National Week of Action Sees Banner Dropped on Watchmen Island

This weekend announces the start of the National Week of Action against the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement around the country. The TPPA is an agreement being negotiated in secrecy by our government along with 11 other countries, including the United States. Leaked chapters show that multi-national corporations will gain the power to sue our government in off shore tribunals if any changes to our laws will affect their projected profits. John Key has admitted that New Zealand will face paying more for medicines, and will not be able prevent bans on overseas investors if the TPPA is passed.

A group of very concerned and committed citizens have hung a large
banner off Watchman Island in the Waitemata Harbour reading "NO TPPA". This action continues the opposition that is being shown around the country. "The people of Aotearoa deserve to know what their elected government is signing us up for, and what rights are being signed away without our knowledge or consent. We're using this island as a public billboard to raise awareness for the urgent issue that our country faces." Says Front-line Arts Collective’s Gypsy Pixie.

The Front-Line Arts Collective have carried out the action to raise awareness of this issue, making a bold statement about their strong and committed opposition to the TPPA. The banner being hung from Watchmen Island gives the issue exposure to traffic travelling over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and the North Shore ferry commuters.

This is the first action that Auckland has seen to kick off the National Week of Action, with actions planned all over the country in the lead up to Saturday the 15th, when rallies will be held in multiple towns and cities around the country opposing the TPPA.
