Australasian Innovation: The AWRI and Aura team up
22nd February 2011 – Press Release – For Immediate Distribution
Australasian Innovation: The AWRI and
Aura team up to offer an innovative world
first.
Australasian wineries have the world experts in the Carbon Reduction Label (CRL) for wine, Aura Sustainability, and the Australasian experts in winery energy efficiency, the AWRI’s Commercial Services Division, working together to deliver world leading carbon measurement and reduction solutions.
The CRL, or Carbon Reduction Label, is currently well on the way to becoming the world standard in product carbon lifecycle assessment. It’s the footprint logo that consumers look for to know which brands have committed to reduce the carbon footprint of their products. It’s providing a new way of communicating your commitment to the environment and establishing a competitive advantage around your brand positioning. In the United Kingdom alone last year consumer goods wearing the Carbon Reduction Label outsold organic produce and fair trade labelled consumables. The latest figures released put these sales in excess of two billion pounds per annum.
The CRL utilizes a full carbon lifecycle analysis of a product, such as a bottle of wine, to determine its carbon footprint from vineyard to disposal. Carbon footprinting generates opportunities for savings and improvement across the whole supply chain, a big potential source of efficiencies. It is increasingly being seen as a new management tool to drive out inefficiencies and generate cost and carbon savings.
Aura are world leaders in assessing the CRL for wines with their barefootTM models and tools having completed the world’s first carbon reduction labelled wine in 2010 with Mobius Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The CRL sheds a clear light on process and energy inefficiencies. Aura specialise in product carbon lifecycle assessments to the food and beverage industries and have a long history of world firsts in this field.
The AWRI need no introductions, as the envy of the world’s wine producing nations, in their leadership of Australia’s research, development and winemaking support. Their Commercial Services Division provides the technical expertise to reduce energy usage and costs in the grape growing, winemaking, packaging and distribution of wines to market.
Together the AWRI and Aura are working to deliver world leading CRL solutions to the Australasian wine industry. A limited number of “seats” are available for two one hour webinars being run in March for Australian and New Zealand wineries interested in learning more about the benefits of the CRL.
