Prestigious Forensic Sciences Award Opens for Nominations
ANZPAA National
Institute of Forensic Science (ANZPPA NIFS) is proud to
announce the launch of the 2011 John Harber Phillips Award.
The Award is a unique opportunity to publicly recognise and
encourage outstanding forensic professionals. It is the only
awards program in Australia and New Zealand that recognises
excellence in the profession.
Launched in 2010, the Award aims to facilitate and promote continuous improvement and reward excellence and innovation in the forensic sciences and to encourage a future generation to enter the profession.
ANZPAA NIFS Director, Alastair Ross said that not only does the Award provide a platform for public acknowledgement of professionals in the forensic sciences, but the award also recognises the important contribution forensic science makes to law enforcement.
“The Award offers a unique opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of one of our colleagues (both former and current). We invite individuals or peers within the forensic sciences, law enforcement and legal communities to nominate a professional who has made signifi¬cant contributions to the advancement of the forensic sciences,” says Mr Ross.
Mr Ross said that the calibre of last year’s nominations showcased the commitment and dedication the forensic community has to providing quality and professional services to law enforcement. Last year’s winner Mr Wayne Chisnall (retired General Manager Forensics, ESR New Zealand) was presented with the Award at the Ministerial Council for Police and Emergency Management - Police dinner in Canberra.
Mr Ross said that as the inaugural recipient, Mr Chisnall truly personified the quality and outstanding commitment that is fundamental to the purpose of this Award.
“Throughout his long and distinguished career, Wayne displayed exceptional leadership and management skills and led and guided forensic science in New Zealand through a remarkable period of change and challenge. We know that there are many more individuals out there who deserve similar recognition,” Mr Ross says.
Nominations for this prestigious award open today, 22 March 2011 and close on 6 August 2011.
