The state of our environment - August 2011

the state of our environment | August 2011

There were a few ‘notables’ for August, top of the list being chilly temperatures that were around 1°C colder than usual. Rainfall was below normal and that is beginning to affect river flows which were also mostly below normal for the month. The outlook suggests we might see a similar story for rainfall and river flows during spring. Air quality results brought both good news and bad news. Air quality exceedances occurred in Hastings and Napier bringing winter’s tally to 12 for Hastings, down from 15 last year, and 4 for Napier which was up from the 3 we’ve had for the past two winters.
