Festival Goers Race To Capture R&V on their Wrists

A shift from the traditional festival experience. Festival goers race to capture their unique R&V experience via wearable technology – My Festival Story (www.myfestivalstory.co.nz)
More than 10,000 check ins via My Festival Story on day one

Thousands of festival goers raced to document day one of their unique Rhythm & Vines experience via their wristbands as part of the My Festival Story initiative.

Thanks to event partners Spark and Spotify, for the first time in New Zealand, every R&V, R&A and BW attendee can seamlessly connect, collect and share their unique festival experience via the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology embedded in their official Rhythm wristbands.

Festival-goers can use their wristbands to check in at a number of locations, collect Spotify playlists at stages, follow their favourite acts on Spotify, and have their photo snapped along the way. All of that information is then aggregated into a personal festival story that can be shared on social media.

CEO of Spark Home, Mobile & Business Chris Quin says the traditional festival experience is changing as more and more festival goers take their experiences online.

“We are seeing a real shift in the way people experience concerts and music festivals. Festival goers are using their smartphones to capture photos of friends and the artists on stage to instantly share on social. Using wearable RFID technology, My Festival Story takes this concept up a few notches, providing a complete digital snapshot of your unique festival journey – the places you visited, photos, bespoke playlists and acts you saw, the number of steps you took – to share with your friends on social, and re-live years later, all thanks to Spark and Spotify.” Says Quin.

Kate Vale, Spotify’s Managing Director Australia & New Zealand, says “festival experiences are inherently memorable, extremely personal, and very shareable.”

“We believe My Festival Story has the power to enhance the traditional festival experience by letting you engage with music in new ways, taking your real-world experience into the digital space, seamlessly.”

Creating your own My Festival Story is easy and free for festival-goers. Those wanting to take part just need to sync their wristband to their Spotify account by visiting Spark Hang Out on-site, or post-festival, by registering at www.myfestivalstory.co.nz

After the festival, participants will receive an email with a link to their My Festival Story, where they’ll be given the option to share their story with their friends on Facebook.

Spark Mobile Capacity Upgrades

Spark New Zealand has invested in its biggest ever series of mobile capacity upgrades to over 250 holiday spots around the country to cope with the expected surge in demand over the festive season.

The upgrades cover sites all over New Zealand including in the Coromandel, the Bay of Plenty, East Coast beaches, the Waikato, the lakes of central North Island, and popular South Island holiday areas such as the Queenstown Lakes and Wanaka regions and the Nelson and Blenheim areas.

In anticipation of the influx, Spark New Zealand is also powering up over 70 brand new 4G mobile sites across the country just in time for New Years, on both the 700MHz and 1800MHz radio spectrums, and is also using mobile cell-sites at key locations and special events, including Rhythm & Vines and Rhythm & Alps, to give locals and holiday-makers better access to mobile data throughout summer.
