Afghanistan: Release of Italian Aid Worker

Afghanistan: UN Mission Welcomes Release of Italian Aid Worker

New York, Jun 13 2005 5:00PM

The UN mission in Afghanistan today expressed "relief and pleasure" at the release of the Italian aid worker who had been kidnapped in Kabul three weeks ago.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) welcomed the release of Clementia Cantoni, a staff member of the non-governmental organization CARE, and, in a statement, thanked the Afghan authorities for their role in her release.

The UN mission also voiced its gratitude to the Afghan people, who, it said, expressed their "clear outrage at her kidnapping and offered widespread public support for her safe release."
