Conviction of second Embassy Bomber
Conviction of Embassy Bomber
Indonesia's courts have delivered another blow to terrorism with the conviction today of Achmad Hasan (alias Purnomo) for his role in the bombing of the Australian Embassy.
Like his fellow terrorist Rois, who was convicted on 13 September, the South Jakarta District Court has today sentenced Achmad Hasan to death for his involvement in the bombing.
Achmad Hasan was closely involved in the planning of the attack - he worked closely with fugitive master bombers Azahari and Noordin Top, providing them transportation and accommodation and storing the explosives used in the attack. He also taught the suicide bomber to drive and accompanied him to the explosives-laden vehicle.
The Court's sentence reflects the abhorrence felt in all countries for terrorists and those who support them in their terrible crimes.
The conviction underlines Indonesia's determination to prosecute to the full extent of the law those involved directly or indirectly in terrorism.
