Armed clash in PNG’s Bougainville

Armed clash in PNG’s Bougainville

Members of the Me’ekamui force, who are allegedly linked to money scam operator Noah Musingku, have fired at police in the Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville, but no deaths or injuries were reported.

The acting police chief, Assistant Commissioner Paul Kamuai, says there were several clashes reported in the Buin and Siwai areas of South Bougainville between the Me’ekamui rebels and police.

Inspector Kamuai says police in Buin were fired upon by Me’ekamui rebels travelling in a vehicle.

He also claims that two Fijian ex-soldiers were among the Me’ekamui forces.

Inspector Kamuai says three pellets hit the police vehicle but none of the occupants was injured.

Police also reported another clash in Siwai in which a police post at Panakei was torched allegedly by Me’ekamui rebels.

Police did not return fire.
