PNG health minister wants police tested for HIV
The Papua
New Guinean health minister, Sir Peter Barter, is calling
for the country’s police staff to be tested for HIV.
Sir
Peter says giving the high HIV rate in the country, it would
be time to expand the testing and include the police
force.
He says he will appeal to the minister of police,
the acting police commissioner and the police association to
have voluntary HIV testing.
The health minister also says
police staff must become physically and mentally fit, adding
that the habits of betel nut chewing, alcohol abuse and
smoking are bad for the image of
police.
