Assistant Secretary Ellen R. Sauerbrey Traveling to Nepal, Bhutan and India
Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Ellen Sauerbrey will travel to Nepal, Bhutan and India from October 29 to November 9. During her trip she will meet with refugees benefiting from United States government funded programs in the region.
As part of our longstanding work in supporting refugee protection, she will assess the progress and implementation of a program that will resettle vulnerable Bhutanese refugees in the United States.
In Nepal, Sauerbrey will meet United Nations and Nepalese government officials involved in refugee issues and visit refugee camps and the newly established resettlement processing center in the Jhapa district.
After Kathmandu, Ms. Sauerbrey will travel to Bhutan and India, where she will seek assistance from the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India in promoting durable solutions, including voluntary repatriation, for the Bhutanese refugees. She will also visit US funded programs providing assistance to Tibetan refugees.
