Fallen SASR Soldier Farewelled In Sydney

Trooper Brown’s coffin is carried from the church to the waiting hearse by members of the SASR

Special Air Service Regiment soldier Trooper Jason Brown was today farewelled by family and friends at the Queen of Peace Church, Sydney before being laid to rest at Castlebrook Cemetery.

Trooper Brown’s Sydney-based family was surrounded by friends and his Special Forces colleagues as they gathered to remember his life and military career.

Jason's father, Mr Graham Brown spoke fondly of his son on behalf of the Brown family.

“Jason, your mum, sister and I are extremely proud of you. We will remember you always, every day, as a young man for the rest of our lives. Even when all your loved ones and mates have left this world you will always be remembered by the Regiment – they will never forget you as the Regiment will live on. Rest in peace my son as your duty is done.”

Colonel P, Commanding Officer of the Special Air Service Regiment paid tribute to Jason on behalf of the Regiment.

“Trooper Jason Thomas Brown. You are respected mate. You will forever be remembered by your brothers in the Special Air Service Regiment.”

Trooper Brown’s coffin was carried from the church by his mates from the Special Air Service Regiment. Soldiers from Sydney-based Special Forces units, the 2nd Commando Regiment and the Incident Response Regiment, formed the honour guard and firing party.

The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard; Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott; Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner; Federal Member for Berowra, Phillip Ruddock; Premier of New South Wales, Kristina Keneally; Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Lieutenant General David Hurley; Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie; and Special Operations Commander Australia, Major General Tim McOwan attended the ceremony.

29 year-old Trooper Brown was killed in action on while serving with the Special Operations Task Group in Afghanistan, on Friday 13 August 2010.
