Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and China’s Prime Minister Wen Jiabao today discussed progress towards the achievement of the poverty eradication and social-economic development targets known as the Millennium Development Goals ("http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/"MDGs), particularly in Africa.

They noted China’s success in reducing poverty, saying it could serve as an example for many other countries.

Mr. Ban and Mr. Wen also exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsula, stressing the need to revive the six party talks in the interests of a nuclear weapons-free peninsula.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for China’s contributions to various UN peacekeeping operations, and sought China’s further support in Sudan, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

They also exchanged views on climate change and the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, from 29 November to 10 December.
