Secretary-General Saddened By Death Of Barbados Prime Minister

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today voiced his sadness over the death of the Prime Minister of Barbados, David Thompson, and praised the leader's long-standing commitment to democracy and his contribution to advancing the values of the United Nations.

Mr. Thompson, who died yesterday, was a member of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability, which is tasked with finding ways to lift people out of poverty while tackling climate change and ensuring that economic development is environmentally friendly.

The Secretary-General extended his sincere condolences and respect to the family of Mr. Thompson, the Government and people of Barbados.
